…and so to the Saturday, this was my final day in and around Arnhem. Tomorrow I would start the long bike journey home to Alkmaar.
I was planning just to walk around the city and try to get some photo’s done. I wanted to get some flowers for the owner for the use of her house.
I really enjoyed staying in Arnhem. A lot of the houses and steep roads reminded me of Dundee, so as you can guess I felt right at home here. Plus the area was perfect to cycle in, with some hilly roads and beautiful woodland areas. I had also the chance to visit my niece and her family as they lived very near. And of course, I crossed the border into Germany.
By I will reminisce more on the final blog, so to today.

As I earlier mentioned the plans were just a walk about and that evening I was to go to the restaurant with my brother at 6. While getting ready to leave for town I received a message from niece about a 2nd hand market in another part of town. I could take a bus journey but the weather today was once more beautiful, so I thought I would walk. It was two and a half kilometers.
I realised very early but I think this might have been a mistake. It was once more another day with temperatures above the 35 degrees. Sweating through my T-shirt. After once more taking a wrong road and walking a kilometer verder than I should, I arrived at a shopping centre, which was just in front of the market.
I decided after the market, where I bought nothing, to return to the shopping center, I would buy another shirt as the one I was wearing was soaked through.

I was wise enough to get the bus back into town, because by now temperatures were sweltering.

As I walked through the town I came across a shop selling British products, my brother had mentioned it before. So I went in and bought lots of goodies.

I also came up with a brilliant idea. Since this was the last few days of the holiday period, I wanted to indulge myself with an expensive eau de toilet.
So made my way to an expensive shop and after much discussions and drinks and smells. I bought this…
This is seriously the nicest smelling eau de toilet I have ever had in my possession.
After walking through the town, I returned to the apartment via the Supermarket to chill, I showered and prepared myself for the evening at the restaurant. I also planned to watch Dundee United play Ross on my laptop. Due to going to the restaurant, I missed the last 30 minutes of the game, but I am happy to report we won 2-1.
The evening was brilliant. The brother and I totally loved the food and the hospitality of a very nice host. Check the photo page for a view of the evenings food.

We sat outside and it was like a cool breeze was sweeping through the town and it was welcome after the tropical heat of the last week or so.
After the meal, we headed back to the apartment. The brother was heading back to Alkmaar and he would take along my bag, including my laptop, so as you understand this blog is being written a few days later.

After he had left, I sat outside the house as the weather was still warm. I was watched the world go by. I hope it stays dry tomorrow and so I wanted to get to bed early, so that I have an early start in the morning.
This was my last day in Arnhem. I loved every minute and will be going back next year to tour around more. I can’t thank Brigitte enough for the use of her house.
Tomorrow is the first past of the journey home…
