The journey from Arnhem to Hilversum
And so I set off from the beautiful province of Gelderland and the climbing hills and very friendly people.
I thought I was gonna be lucky as the sun was behind the clouds and I thought it might stay there for the rest of the trip…guess again.
Passing through towns and villages I might not see again, I try to make pictures in my head of certain places. As I was cycling along, my mobile went off, but as I was cycling I thought it better to wait until I reached the next village, Lutteren
When I checked my phone, I saw it was the Hotel who phoned me. I thought maybe they were checking up what time I would be there.
So, I returned the call and I received yet another wake-up call
The young lady by the reception (Nadine) enquired why I had not appeared the evening before…yes, folks you’ve guessed it. I had reserved for the evening before…what a fucking moron. I was a lucky man, because Nadine said, it was not to be a problem, they could move it to that night at only a €10 cost…lucky lucky bugger. I had also asked that I had my bike in my room as I didn’t want it outside. although it was against the rules, Nadine said they would let me.
So, I set off again towards Hilversum. Well wonder above wonder, the sun came out and temperature soared up to above the 30 degrees again
Due to the extreme hot temperature I had to have more stops than I had wished for and when I reached the Hotel, it was nearly 2 hours later than I had planned.
My legs were starting to sieze up, I was very dry, all 3 bidons were empty and if I tell over my ass, it felt like one big blister. It was aching.
I will invest in a more expensive saddle as the one I have on my bike in France was an expensive one and it helps me long distance rides. I had the same problem with the cheaper cycling shoes, but now I bought a bit more expensive ones, my feet are fine on the long distance runs.
…And so I arrived by the Van Der Valk hotel and I was shattered totally and utterly knackered.
I spoke to the lovely Nadine, who was pregnant and she laughed when I explained what a dumbo I was. I arranged everything and also I reserved a table for in the restaurant.
I set off to my room and when I arrived, seriously the first thing I did was turn the bath taps on…
After more than half an hour of soaking in the tub and feeling my legs relax I got out and decided to go out for a walk about outside, but as warned by my brother. There is nothing outside of the Hotel, only the A1 motorway and so back to my room to chill until it was time to go to the restaurant…
and no, I did not fall asleep LOL
Heading down to the restaurant at 5, I was really in the mood for dinner and boy did I have a lovely meal
After dinner I returned to the room and lay on the bed watching TV. I did not want to fall asleep as we were expecting a really heavy thunderstorm, so I moved my myself outside and waited on the storm.
Well I was not disappointed, it was a storm nearly the whole of country had and near the Hotel certain parts of the province Utrecht had floods and I can believe why…it was mental
After the thunder slowly faded into the distance towards the north of the country. I lay down on the bed and I reckon within a few minutes I was deep in zzzzzzzz land. I know I have to save my energy for the final leg of my journey towards Alkmaar.
Night Night my friends
